Trans Fats, GMO’s, & Carbs, OH MY!

Trans Fat

Trans fats are formed when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil during food processing in order to make it solidify. This process, known as hydrogenation, makes fats less likely to spoil. Trans fat is common in fried foods like french fries, fried chicken, & doughnuts – as well as cookies, pastries & crackers. It’s no wonder food manufactures love them; they are cheap & reduce perish-ability. But these completely unnatural man-made fats cause dysfunction and chaos in your body on a cellular level. Studies have linked trans fats to:

Cancer: they interfere with enzymes your body uses to fight cancer

Alzeihmer’s disease

Reduced immune response in turn decreasing immune function


Diabetes: They interfere with insulin receptors in your cell membranes


Interfere with you body’s use of Omega-3 fats

Aggressive & violent behavior


GMO’s, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These are gene combinations and creations that do not occur naturally in nature. Basically all commercial GMO’s are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. None of the GMO traits currently on the market offer enhanced nutrition or any other consumer benefit. Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems such as:

Food allergies (including celiacs)

Skin allergies






We need carbs in our diet, we just need to careful which ones we choose. We want to avoid refined and processed carbs that strip away beneficial fiber, i.e. white bread and white rice. The carbs you want to gravitate towards come from plants – such as fruits and veggies. They are loaded with quality fiber! Some examples are artichokes, cabbage, blueberries, and broccoli. And remember, always eat TWICE as many veggies as you do fruit! So say you have a salad with veggies for lunch – there are your carbs for the day!

Artificial Sweeteners

These are a sweet deception. They are considered an inflammatory food, and when the body is bombarded with inflammatory foods such as this it can cause allergies or food sensitivities to develop. This then leads to swelling and irritation occurring internally and externally throughout the body, which can cause a host of problems stemming from inflammation in the following areas:

Heart – which causes heart disease

Lungs – which causes asthma

Fat cells – which causes obesity

Processed Foods

Processed foods have been altered from their natural state – usually for convenience. In fact, trans fats, articicial sweeteners, GMO’s, and carbs are either processed or found in processed foods. They are unnatural and contain additives that are meant to magnify taste, texture, and shelf-life. In a nut shell, are a few of the unwanted qualities processed foods offer us:

They are WICKED addictive

They cause inflammation – one of the leading causes of chronic illness

These fake foods make for a foggy mind

They are pumped full of GMO’s

They are filled with pesticides

They are sythetic – not real!

High Fructose Corn Syrup

This is a liquid sweetener alternative to table sugar that is refined with dangerous additives from corn and is relatively cheap to produce. This additive contributes to fat deposits in your liver which increases build up of lipoproteins, plaque build up, and narrowing of vessels. This sneaky sweetener hides in places like baked goods, canned fruits, dairy products, carbonated drinks, and most sweetened beverages in the market today. It even hides in places that you think are safe like yogurts! Scary – Be sure you are checking labels!
