Snacks that Help You Lose Weight

Although we are used to having only three meals a day, dietary experts agree that it is better to have several small meals or snacks throughout the day. Snacks are vital to a healthy diet – they help keep blood sugars stable; prevent you from getting too hungry at meals and over-eating; and are a great way to eat several different nutrients. Try these healthy snack ideas:

  • Nuts: Snacking on nuts are a great way to add extra protein to your diet. Eat unsalted nuts to avoid extra salt in your diet.

  • High-fiber bars: Bars are a satisfying and portable snack. Make sure you choose bars with natural ingredients and that aren’t more than 200 calories.

  • Fruit and yogurt: As we shared in our last blog, Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein. Jazz up your yogurt with fresh fruit.

  • Peanut butter sandwiches: Use natural peanut butter and whole grain bread for a tasty and filling snack.

  • Low-fat chocolate milk: This snack is a great source of protein, calcium, and many vitamins and minerals. It’s an especially great post-workout snack, because it can be quickly absorbed to replenish fuel stores.

  • Bran muffins: High-fiber muffins have very few ingredients and take a long time to digest, boosting your metabolism for longer. Either make your own muffins or buy organic to make sure you don’t get muffins that are loaded with fat and calories.

  • Lite popcorn: Popcorn is naturally a high-fiber food, because it is a whole grain. As long as you avoid large helpings of buttery movie theater popcorn, it can be a healthy snack.
